Directions
Stove-Top Directions: You Will Need: 1-1/2 cups warm water; 3/4 cup milk (For lower fat, use skim milk and decrease butter or margarine to 1 tablespoon); 2 tablespoons butter or margarine (For lower fat, use skim milk and decrease butter or margarine to 1 tablespoon). Step 1: Heat warm water, milk, butter, pasta, and sauce mix to boiling in 2-quart saucepan; stir frequently. Step 2: Reduce heat. Low boil uncovered 12 minutes, stirring frequently, until desired tenderness. Step 3: Remove from heat. Let stand 5 minutes, uncovered. Sauce will thicken as it stands. Stir. Makes about 2 cups. Note: Because stove-tops and saucepans differ, you may need to adjust heat and cook times. Make it a Meal: Cook Farmhouse Pasta and Sauce following preparation instructions above. Separately, prepare your choice of meat and vegetables until cooked through. Combine cooked meat and vegetables with pasta, then add your choice of toppings. Hint: For a crunchy topping, transfer pasta, meat, and vegetable mixture to an oven-safe dish, add topping, and lightly brown under broiler. Vegetables: 1 cup frozen vegetable mixture, broccoli, or peas and carrots, thawed and drained; 1/4 cup chopped red bell peppers; 1 (4-oz) can mushrooms, drained; Cooked Meat: 1 cup chicken, turkey, ham or smoked sausage; 1 (6-oz) can tuna, drained. Toppings: 2 tbsp croutons; 2 tbsp cooked and crumbled bacon; 2 tbsp sliced green onions. To Microwave: For two 1-cup servings. Stir together 1-1/2 cups warm water, 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, and pasta in 1-1/2-quart microwave-safe bowl. Microwave uncovered on high 9 to 11 minutes; stirring every 5 minutes, until most of liquid is absorbed. Stir in 3/4 cup milk and sauce mix. Microwave uncovered 3 to 5 minutes until desired tenderness. Let stand uncovered 5 minutes or until sauce is as thick as desired; stir. Important: Not recommended for 1,000 watt or higher microwaves. Because microwaves cook differently, times are approximate. High Altitude (Above 3,500 Feet): Stove-Top: Increase low boil time to 14 minutes. Microwave: Increase warm water to 2 cups. Increase first microwave time to 12-14 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes. Continue as directed.
