Directions
Stove Top Directions. 1. Combine water, salt and butter (Margarine may be substituted for butter) according to chart below. For best results, do not add milk until step 3. 2. Heat to a boil, remove from heat. 3. Add cold milk; stir in potatoes gently and let stand until moist. Whip lightly with fork and serve. For a creamier mashed potato, stir in additional hot water or milk. For a firmer mashed potato, stir in additional potatoes. Less salt can be added if desired. Microwave Directions. Microwaves vary-heating times may have to be adjusted. 1. Combine water, salt, and butter (Margarine may be substituted for butter) according to chart below in microwave-safe serving bowl. 2. Heat to a boil in microwave on high setting. Note: microwaving not recommended for over 6 servings. 3. Remove from microwave. Caution: Serving bowl and liquid will be hot. 4. Add cold milk; stir in potatoes gently and let stand until moist. Whip lightly with fork and serve. 2 servings: 1 qt pan size; 2/3 cup water; 1/4 tsp salt; 1 tbsp butter (Margarine may be substituted for butter); 1/3 cup milk; 2/3 cup potatoes. 4 servings: 1-1/2 qts pan size; 1-1/3 water; 1/2 tsp salt; 2 tbsp butter (Margarine may be substituted for butter); 2/3 cup milk; 1-1/3 cups potatoes. 8 Servings: 2 qts pan size; 2-2/3 cups water; 1 tsp salt; 4 tbsp butter (Margarine may be substituted for butter); 1-1/3 cups milk; entire pouch of potatoes.
