Safeway connects to our EDI partners exclusively
through AS2 adhering to the EDIINT standards. EDIINT stipulates
a secure encrypted and digitally signed method of communicating
over the Internet and provides non-repudiation of the delivery of
the messages between partners.
Safeway currently uses Axway Synchrony (previously
called Cyclone Interchange) software to communicate with our partners
using the AS2 specification foe EDI. Safeway prefers using the Http
protocol and the synchronous Message Disposition Notification (MDN).
Safeway maintains two AS2 environments - a QA for testing and a
Production for the live EDI transactions. Safeway will make every
attempt to facilitate our trading partners to set up the AS2 connection.
However, in order to establish the AS2 connection with Safeway,
Safeway will mandate our trading partners to satisfy a set of criteria,
e.g. transaction volume.
If your company is AS2 enabled and would
like to connect with Safeway via AS2, please contact Thomas Lam
at 925-226-9622 or by email at Thomas.Lam2@Safeway.com.
He will co-ordinate and provide you with the necessary information
to setup the AS2 connection.
The AS2 software must be certified for interoperability
by Drummond Group. For a complete list of certified AS2 software,
please visit their website at http://www.drummondgroup.com.
If your company is not yet AS2 enabled,
there are two other options available:
- Connect to Safeway via a Value Added
Network (VAN)
Most of the VAN already has a direct AS2 connection with Safeway
and therefore is capable of transmitting the EDI transactions.
Your company will sign up with one of the VAN to allow them to
receive and send your EDI transactions electronically to and from
Safeway. However, the cost of the connection is borne entirely
by your company as Safeway will not bear the cost for the VAN
services. Depending on your setup with the VAN, there could be
some delay in the delivery of the EDI transactions.
- Connect to Safeway via a 3rd party
service provider
Another way to connect to Safeway for EDI transactions is to engage
a third party service provider who can connect to Safeway via
AS2. These service providers, in addition to enable your company
to send and receive the EDI transactions electronically, they
also provide wide variety additional services for your processing
needs.
Currently, the following VAN and 3rd
party service providers are connected to Safeway via AS2:
| Sterling Commerce (Ordernet)* |
GXS (GEIS, IBM Advantis)* |
| Inovis (Harbinger)* |
Kleinschmidt* |
