Childhood obesity is one of our nation’s leading health threats. Nearly one in three children and youth is already overweight or obese. Because of the number of conditions and diseases that are associated with obesity, some experts believe that our current generation may be the first in American history to live shorter lives than their parents.
With the opening of the new store, Safeway is partnering with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation to promote healthy eating by children. At the Georgetown Safeway and others throughout the City, Safeway will join with local schools to promote healthy eating through events and activities.
