About Safeway's Georgetown store
Safeway's new format, introduced several years ago, brings customers all the conveniences and choices they have come to expect in a quality, modern supermarket. The new format includes an earthy-toned decor, subdued lighting, custom flooring and unique display features to provide a warm ambiance that enhances the shopping experience. This format showcases enhanced service departments, such as floral, produce, deli/food service, bakery, meat and seafood, and emphasizes high-quality perishable products and prepared foods.

The new Georgetown Safeway has numerous special features designed to meet your shopping needs and make your trip enjoyable. The store features a(n):

The new store will continue to promote the character and nature of this part of Georgetown.
The old Safeway was razed and the new store building has been moved to Wisconsin Avenue making it more pedestrian-friendly. The building is two stories with the Safeway located on the second level. On the ground floor, there are 7,000 s.f. of street shops with entrances on Wisconsin Avenue.
There are two levels of free parking. On the ground floor, the parking is covered by the store, with a second level of parking on a deck at the rear of the store. Store entrances are located on Wisconsin Avenue and from the parking deck.
The new store is designed to make your shopping trip convenient and enjoyable.
There is a large seating area with windows looking onto Wisconsin Avenue. During the colder months a fireplace will provide a warm ambiance. In addition to the indoor seating area, an open-air balcony will provide additional seating during warmer weather.
history of Safeway in Georgetown
Safeway has strong roots in the Georgetown community. Safeway began serving Washington DC by acquiring the Sanitary Grocery Company 80 years ago. Safeway operated the Georgetown Sanitary Grocery store before it changed the banner to Safeway. Later, Safeway opened its first store on Wisconsin Avenue near 34th Street. Since then, it has been replaced and enlarged twice to improve the services provided to our customers. As the fourth store in this location, the Georgetown Safeway is the urban supermarket for the 21st Century.
