Centennial, CO — April 28, 2016 — In cooperation with the CSM Bakery Solutions (CSM) voluntary recall of bakery items that may contain an undeclared peanut allergen, Safeway is voluntarily recalling Red Velvet Cake that was supplied by CSM and sold in Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming, as well as stores in Farmington and Aztec, New Mexico.

Albertsons and Safeway Voluntarily Recall Five Refrigerated Salads in Cooperation with Reser’s Fine Foods’ Product Recall Due to Possible Listeria monocytogenes Contamination

PLEASANTON, Calif., — April 13, 2016 — In cooperation with Reser’s Fine Foods’ voluntary recall of refrigerated salads that may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes, Albertsons and Safeway stores are voluntarily recalling several refrigerated salad products supplied by Reser’s. Reser’s was notified by a supplier that Listeria monocytogenes may be present in one lot of onions that was used in the manufacture of these salads.

Listeria is an organism that can cause serious and sometime fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and individuals with weakened immune systems. Healthy people may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant woman.

The Reser’s recall impacts Albertsons stores in nine states and Safeway, Vons, Pavilions and Pak ‘N Save stores in 15 states. For Albertsons stores, only the following product in the noted states is subject to the recall.

FSIS Consumer Alert
The United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a Consumer Alert that affects frozen, raw, stuffed and breaded chicken products produced by Aspen Foods/ Koch Poultry. Three Safeway Kitchens products produced by Aspen Foods/Koch Poultry are part of the alert. (See products below.) Until we receive more information, Safeway is removing all products related to the FSIS alert out of an abundance of caution. The products display a Best Before date on or after July 14, 2016 (July 14 16).

Nine Alaska Safeway and Carrs Stores Voluntarily Recall Deli Sandwiches Containing Cucumbers in Cooperation with the Andrew and Williamson Fresh Produce Recall Due to Possible Salmonella Poona Contamination
BELLVUE, Wash. — September 8, 2015 — In cooperation with the Andrew and Williamson Fresh Produce recall of cucumbers that may be contaminated with Salmonella Poona, Safeway is voluntarily recalling made-to-order deli sandwiches with cucumbers produced by Andrew and Williamson and sold in nine Safeway and Carrs stores in Alaska.

Sandwiches were sold from August 1 through September 4 from the full-service sandwich counter. The stores include:

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

No illnesses have been associated with Safeway or Carrs sandwiches. We are recalling the sandwiches out of an abundance of caution.
