Embracing Diversity
Our workforce reflects the diverse communities we serve. In 2008, Safeway received the Champion of Diversity award from Supermarket News, a leading grocery industry trade publication. The honor is presented annually to a grocery company that demonstrates a sustained and successful commitment to attracting and retaining a diverse workforce.

We maintain active and effective network groups for Women, African-Americans, Asians, Hispanics and the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Alliance. We recently added additional groups for Single Moms and Dads, Cancer Survivors and Corporate Social Responsibility. These groups provide networking, leadership and mentoring opportunities that encourage personal, professional and organizational growth. Group members also advise and support management in becoming the employer of choice in recruitment, development and deployment of a talented, diverse workforce.
